Working together
The Uganda Women’s Health Initiative (UWHI) is a unique collaboration between five organisations – two based in the UK and three in Uganda.
The UK organisations are University College London (UCL), a world-leading educational establishment, and University College London Hospital (UCLH), a leading UK NHS hospital.
These two UK organisations formed the Institute for Women’s Health (IfWH). It was a visit to Uganda by ten members of the IfWH that provided the springboard for the development of the Ugandan Women’s Health Initiative.
The three collaborating organisations in Uganda are Mulago, Uganda’s biggest hospital based in the capital, Kampala, Makerere University in Kampala and Hospice Africa Uganda.
The UWHI team was brought together by Professor Ian Jacobs in 2005 and, since then, has been working with a range of clinical professionals and institutions, all of whom have an active interest in women’s health in Uganda.
